If you have the opportunity to choose between a good and a poor moped buy the good one.
The extra cost for a good moped usually shows to be well-invested money.
Spare parts to get a poor moped in state are quite expensive.

Original exhaust systems for Puch are nearly impossible to find.
Check to see that the parts are okay and have the right vintage.
You often find mopeds with wrong exhaust parts for that year's model.

Is the engine type right for that year's model?
Many mopeds have had their engines exchanged.
On Puch mopeds the engine number and the frame number should be the same.
A compilation of Puch frame numbers in Sweden can be found at Anders Axelssons site

Buy a well-known make or popular model.

A couple of things to look for on a Puch;
The rear mudguard often rusts and there shall be a visible joint at the rear part, if not it is probably rusty and filled with putty.
The footbridge is sometimes welded and/or skew.
The dualseat frames are nearly always rusty.
Rust under the toolbox lid on the MS, DS, VS and MV models are very common.

Start up the engine and let it run for a couple of minutes.
Engage the clutch, a lightly whining sound is okay but if it starts to sound real nasty the engine is probably due for a renovation.
Check the function of the clutch, "poorly adjusted" is a common excuse.

The wheels. See that all the spokes are in place and that the wheel rims are strait.
Check the function of the brakes and that they springs back.
Check for worn bearings, there should be no side play at the wheel rim.
The tires should be crack free.

Sometimes mopeds are adverted as "taken apart", "easy to fix" or "in need of a renovation"
Watch out! It can be an expensive affair. A poor object shall be cheap.

When you at last find the moped of your dreams and it seems to be in shape, buy it!
Even if the price is high, do not wait. The buyers stand in line for a good moped.
The only deals I regret is the one I did not made.
